GREEN SMOOTHIE

Based on a bunch of experimentation.

Ingredients

  • A couple handfuls of spinach

  • 1 cup milk (any kind)

  • 1 tablespoon flax seed

  • 1 tablespoon hemp hearts

  • 100 grams yogurt (plain or any flavour)

  • 1 frozen banana, cut into chunks

  • ½–1 cup water

Makes one 500–600ml smoothie.

Method

  1. Blend together the spinach and the milk using an immersion blender.

  2. Add the remaining ingredients and blend together.

  3. Serve immediately.

Notes:

  • I generally look for smaller bananas at the grocery store (not the mini ones, but rather the smaller regular size bananas). If you tend to buy the bigger bananas, you may want to use ½ or ¾.

  • I’ve been keeping a freezer bag full of frozen bananas for our smoothies. I recently learned it’s important to peel them before throwing them in the freezer!

  • I usually use close to 1 cup of water, but you can use less if you want a thicker smoothie (or less smoothie).

  • Any milk would work well in this recipe. I usually use almond or soy milk. You can also use all water if you prefer.

  • My favourite yogurt flavours for this smoothie are lemon, lime, or coconut. Hubby likes his with strawberry yogurt and a scoop of protein powder.
